I have been sharing every week the axioms we have created to guide your play of the Decade Game®. These axioms constitute some of the new rules to live by in order to design the best decade of your life, so far. Last week I shared axiom #2: Practice thoughtful wishing instead of wishful thinking, because thoughtful wishes always come true.
Our Decade Game® axiom #3 is: You can’t get there from here, but you can get here from there. You have probably heard the saying, “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there”. This is said to people who are confused as to their destination and is a warning that you must pick the “right road” in order to find your way. That is a linear thinking mindset of cause and effect – you must travel from A to B in order to get to C. And beware of the wrong turn.
The Decade Game® takes a different approach to constructing a magical itinerary. The most effective way to manifest a transformation is by fully imagining what might be — the There, — and transporting as much of the star stuff of that future state as possible back into today’s reality – the Here. By visualizing an amazing future identity and claiming that destiny for yourself, new possibilities show up that create an immediate future as you convert hope into action.
With the growing understanding of the neuroplasticity of the brain, we now have a greater appreciation for how visualization actually reprograms the brain to be open to new possibilities and the confidence that they are attainable. The research shows that the daily practice of visualizing your dreams as already complete can rapidly accelerate your achievement of those dreams, goals and ambitions. Our brains will always choose what is familiar over what is unfamiliar.
Getting “here from there” allows the magic of our brain/heart partnership to do their transformational work for us. By choosing an action that is a baby step towards a powerful future – a “tiny mighty” – you create daily wins that feel victorious. The beauty of this axiom is that there is NO wrong turn or move. Any choice can be a step forward and create the context and guidance for choosing the next best step. With this axiom “if you know where you are going, any road will get you there”.
